Advanced Security Training (AST)

Build the skills, confidence, and certification you need to work in professional security roles across British Columbia.

Advanced Security Training (AST) is the required training program for individuals seeking to move forward in the BC security industry. AST builds on Basic Security Training and prepares learners with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional standards expected in real-world security work. The program is delivered in person, follows the provincial curriculum, and requires students to complete the full 24-hour course.

Train with confidence. Train with RiskPro Consulting.

What Is Advanced Security Training?

Advanced Security Training is a provincially recognized course designed for security professionals who want to strengthen their skills and meet industry expectations in British Columbia. AST goes beyond the basics and focuses on professionalism, communication, situational awareness, report writing, legal authority, and practical response skills used in the field.

The course must be delivered face-to-face at a physical training location and cannot be delivered online. It is taught in English, and every student must complete the entire provincial curriculum.

Who AST Training Is For

AST is ideal for:

  • Security guards looking to advance their qualifications

  • New professionals entering the security field after BST

  • Employers wanting stronger, better-prepared staff

  • Individuals seeking more confidence in conflict management, observation, and response skills

Whether you plan to work in healthcare, retail, events, mobile patrol, housing, or community settings, AST helps prepare you for the realities of frontline security work.

What You’ll Learn

Our AST program gives students both theory and practical learning to help them succeed in the field. Training focuses on key areas such as:

  • Professional conduct and industry expectations

  • Communication and de-escalation skills

  • Legal authorities and responsibilities

  • Observation, note taking, and report writing

  • Safety awareness and incident response

  • Physical readiness for hands-on components

  • Exam preparation and course completion support

Students also participate in hands-on learning, so training sites must include mats and protective equipment for physical modules

How the Course Is Delivered

Our AST classes are structured to meet JIBC delivery standards and provide a professional learning environment.

  • 24 hours of training total

  • Maximum 8 hours of instruction per day

  • In-person classroom delivery only

  • AST participant materials provided as required by program standards

We aim to create a supportive, professional, and practical learning environment so students can build skills they can actually use on the job.

Exam Expectations

Students should come prepared to complete the course seriously and professionally. The AST exam is closed book, and students are not allowed to use notes, books, web browsers, AI tools, or other study materials during the exam.

Academic integrity is taken seriously. Cheating can result in a fail, no rewrite, and suspension from Security Training courses for one year.

We help students understand the expectations clearly so they can focus on learning, preparation, and success.
